Since Dr. Chugay does a great deal of Microcontouring and Precision Liposuction, his incisions are only as big as the cannulas he uses (which are normally very small). The ancillary benefit of such incision technique is less visible scarring.
Dr. Chugay, contrary to the traditional practice, does not close the miniscule liposuction incisions. Contrary to popular belief, this makes the scar not bigger, but in fact, smaller as the tissues pull in on their own without the obstruction of sutures.
Dr. Chugay started the open-incision practice several years ago. Since he has taught it to his post-graduate fellows and shared it with a number of his colleagues. This technique has also appeared in print and been shown in the media.
Dr. Chugay's and his colleague's practice has shown the following results of the open-incision policy:
All of these positive effects occur as the result of massive post-liposuction draining which continues for several days after the surgery. The drainage contains some fatty tissues, blood, serum, remainder of tumescent fluid and other substances. In a closed incision liposuction, these poisonous fluids remain under the skin for several weeks thus causing body toxicity, prolonged swelling and increased fibrosis.
Fibrous scar tissues are vital in allowing your body to heal and regenerate. They are the connective tissues that appear at the site of any injury as part of the body's natural healing process.
Fibrosis connotes excessive formation of connective fibrous tissue, and, as such, it is an anathema to a successful Liposuction. It is well known that the closer the skin adheres to the underlying tissues, the less fibrosis will occur (there are other factors, of course). This is why tight fitting garments are used post-surgically. This is why prolonged post-operative swelling must be avoided.
When the post-liposuction incisions are closed, the resulting swelling and the distance between the skin and the underlying tissue (such as muscle) will increase fibrosis. Empty space (or fluid-filled space) will be filled with fibrous tissue. After healing, fibrous tissue will feel just like fat, in itself capable of ruining the tight contour that you desire.
Leaving the incisions open will drain the toxic fluids, reduce the amount and the duration of swelling, thus causing reduced formation of fibrous tissue and better body contours.
