Understanding Breast Implant Removal
Breast implant removal is a surgical procedure designed for patients who wish to have their breast implants removed for medical, aesthetic, or personal reasons. Whether due to implant-related complications, lifestyle changes, or a desire for a more natural appearance, Dr. Chugay provides individualized care to ensure safe removal while preserving breast shape as much as possible.
Each procedure is tailored to the patient’s anatomy, implant type, and long-term goals.
Breast Implant Removal Results
Results vary depending on implant size, duration of implantation, and individual anatomy. Many patients report improved comfort and satisfaction with a more natural breast appearance following implant removal.
Who Is a Candidate for Breast Implant Removal?

- Have capsular contracture or implant-related complications
- Have implant rupture or aging implants

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my breasts look saggy after implant removal?
Some patients experience changes in breast shape after implants are removed, especially if implants were large or in place for many years. In certain cases, a breast lift may be recommended to improve firmness and contour.
Is a breast lift required with implant removal?
Not always. Some patients are satisfied with implant removal alone, while others choose to combine it with a lift for enhanced shape. This will be discussed during your consultation.
How long is recovery?
Most patients return to light activities within a few days, with full recovery taking several weeks depending on the extent of the procedure.
Are the scars noticeable?
Dr. Chugay uses existing incisions whenever possible to minimize additional scarring. Any scars typically fade over time.
Can implants be replaced at the same time?
Yes, some patients choose implant replacement instead of removal alone. This option can be discussed during your consultation.
Things to Look for In your Surgeon:
- Experience: With 2 generations of doctors, over 30,000 procedures and a lifetimes worth of combined experience, Dr. Nikolas V. Chugay and Dr. Paul N. Chugay have not only the required experience in various surgical and non surgical procedures but Nikolas has helped revolutionize the industry, and Paul is following very closely in his father’s footsteps, drawing on over 40 years of experience.
- Compatibility & Respect: Book a consultation with the doctor. Get a feel for how they treat you; whether they listen to you and what you want. It’s important to thoroughly discuss what you’re trying to achieve with your doctor so they have a clear, concise idea of what your goal is but it’s equally important that you respect your doctor’s experience and education enough to listen to their recommendations. You don’t want a doctor that doesn’t care about YOU.
- Specialization: Ask your doctor about other times they’ve performed the procedure you want.
The Breast Implant Removal Procedure
Breast implant removal surgery typically involves:
- Removal of the breast implants
- Assessment and treatment of surrounding scar tissue (capsule), if necessary
- Preservation of breast tissue and symmetry
The procedure is performed using established surgical techniques focused on safety and predictable outcomes. In some cases, additional procedures such as a breast lift may be recommended to improve contour after implant removal.
After your Surgery
After your procedure, you’ll wear an elastic compression bra over surgical dressings. Some bruising and discomfort in the breast area is normal. Any pain and discomfort you feel can be relieved with medications prescribed. Healing is gradual but you should be up and about in a day or two. You can return to work within several days (depending on what you do). Patients are asked to avoid heavy lifting or vigorous physical activity for 6 weeks after surgery to maximize results. Light aerobic activity can begin at week 2 after surgery.
