Hip Dips

Hip Dips

Hip dips are the inward curves along the side of your body just below your hip bones. Each person is different based on their bone structure; some hip dips are more noticeable than others but are a normal occurrence in both men and women.

The scientific term for hip dips is called “trochanteric depression”. Another popular term is “violin hip”. The reference to the violin is due to the inward curve on the instrument.

For women who desire a curvier figure, there are procedures available to help shape the outer hip and produce a more hourglass-like figure and reduce the appearance of the hip dip. Two options are available: fat transfer and silicone implant placement.

Hip Dips – Fat Transfer

Our recommendation is to start with a fat transfer, if there is enough quantity, as it is yours and there is a lesser risk of complications associated with fat grafting.

While not 100% of the fat will stay, studies have clearly shown that fat is retained after fat transfer. More than one fat transfer may be required to achieve a more prominent volume addition to the hip region.

Hip Dips – Hip Implant Surgery

To avoid volume loss with fat transfer or for those patients that lack enough fat for a transfer, implants are a second option for correction of the hip dip. For those who want to achieve “significant” fill of the hip dip area using implants, there may be a need for staging procedures first to place an implant and then to place larger implants to further fill the area in a subsequent surgery.

Things to Look for In your Surgeon:

  • Experience: With 2 generations of doctors, over 30,000 procedures and a lifetimes worth of combined experience, Dr. Nikolas V. Chugay and Dr. Paul N. Chugay have not only the required experience in various surgical and non surgical procedures but Nikolas has helped revolutionize the industry, and Paul is following very closely in his father’s footsteps, drawing on over 40 years of experience.
  • Compatibility & Respect: Book a consultation with the doctor. Get a feel for how they treat you; whether they listen to you and what you want. It’s important to thoroughly discuss what you’re trying to achieve with your doctor so they have a clear, concise idea of what your goal is but it’s equally important that you respect your doctor’s experience and education enough to listen to their recommendations. You don’t want a doctor that doesn’t care about YOU.
  • Specialization: Ask your doctor about other times they’ve performed the procedure you want.
